Paying the Mafia Don, Book 1 of the Tendered Vows series, was about 41-year-old Leandros Gataki, the head of the Gataki Organisation, and 24-year-old (or around that age) Valentina Wright, an elementary school teacher.
This was a micro-short story about a Greek crime lord and a Chicago elementary school teacher. Leandros, a man who had been denied a wife when his previous intended eloped with another man, demanded that the Ismailov crime boss produce a new bride. Valentina was forced to marry Leandros to save her parents from debt collectors.
There were quite a few grammatical errors and punctuation mistakes that detracted from the flow of the story. The angst and drama were both OTT for such a short story. Even the emotional rollercoaster had more than its fair share of twists and turns.
The two main characters were well-developed, but they lacked a maturity level to fit their station. The FMC was given more wisdom than expected, and she had moxy. But the MMC seemed to be stunted at the age of 35 when he was married to another woman. That relationship shaped his emotions and character to the point he was almost not likable.
There was enough about the book to make it unappealing...and yet it still held a charm that most would find endearing. Because of that, I felt compelled to give this story a three-star rating.
