My enemy doesn’t make the rules behind closed doors…
Even if he’s my boss.
Cade Armanelli might be an infamous hacker with billionaire status who operates better alone, but I earned my spot working alongside him…
Whether he likes it or not.
It’s precisely why I’m on the first plane to an undisclosed location for our cybersecurity team retreat. I’m ready to prove to our company that I can handle anything…
Except sharing a cabin and a bed with my meticulous, elusive boss.
He’s antisocial.
Ruthless.
Enemy number one.
Unfortunately, he’s also number one in tatted, dark, and dangerous. I quickly come to find that not only are his hacking skills perfection, but so is his performance in the bedroom.
Not that it matters. I have a job to keep, a heart to protect, and our nation’s data to secure.
Cade can’t help me with any of that.
He’s a distraction. One I have to avoid…
Even if it means I’m spray painting a red line down our bed and keeping my boss on his side.

A little disappointed. This book has been really hyped up, but it quickly lost my interest after chapter 10. I skimmed a lot, only to get to what happened in the end.

Corrupted Chaos, Book 3 of the Tarnished Empire series, was bout Caden "Cade" Armanelli, a cyber-security genius and the brother to Sebastian Armanelli from Book 1, and "Izzy" Hardy, the younger twin sister of Delilah (Lilah) Hardy (the heroine from Book 2 "Fractured Freedom"), a recovering addict, turned undercover operative, turned government worker, turned hacker/cyber-security expert (her character made no sense). Side Note: I have two issues starting out with this book...first is that the author starts the book with a "prequel" and not a "prologue". Not sure what that's about, but it definitely is NOT a "prequel". The second issue I had is...well, to be honest, I didn't like Izzy. I didn't think she deserved her own story. She was NOT kind to her sister in Book 2, and she even tried to steal her sister's love interest while she (the sister) was laying in a hospital bed due to injuries that Izzy could have prevented if she hadn't put her twin in harm's way by lying to her and using her. She jeopardized her sister's safety, and that was unacceptable to me because she did it out of malice and revenge (IMHO). I REALLY did not like Izzy...did I say that already?! Yeah, if you haven't read Book 2 yet (Fractured Freedom), you might want to do that before reading THIS story. Izzy was NOT a nice person. My dislike of her had nothing to do with the fact she was a recovering drug addict. That, I didn't have a problem with. But it had everything to do with everything she put her sister through, not only in Book 2, but from what was exposed in that book was that Izzy had treated Lilah horribly their entire lives. And that, to me, made her a villain and not worthy of a HEA. I don't know if I'm going to enjoy this story about her. I guess I'm about to find out... This was a hard book to write a review on. Mainly because, yes, I didn't like Izzy. No, she didn't grow on me the more I read the story. She was no virtuous heroine. She didn't mind sleeping around, even with Cade. She had a dirty mouth on her, and an even dirtier mind. BDSM, even light, was the game of the main characters, and they didn't mind playing head games with each other. Izzy and Cade met several years earlier when Izzy worked with Cade's cousin Dante (the Hero from Book 2 who married Izzy's twin sister). Cade didn't like her even before he met her...and even less afterward. He didn't think she was right for an undercover/government agent because she not only lacked the training, she was too young and a recovering addict, and he feared she would relapse...or cause a major meltdown in their sting operation. Cade didn't bother to hide his disdain from Izzy either. The first 10 chapters were nothing more than Cade and Izzy either snapping at each other or having sex and snapping at each other while they screwed. It got to the point that I almost walked away because the arguing was the same crap, different chapter, different day, and different week. It started to become dull and boring. By chapter 14, I started yawning because all the author was dishing out was more arguing and sex between Cade and Izzy. It was getting to the point of thinking "O.M.G....again?!". Too much-supposed sizzle, overload of angst, and drama shoved down the throat one too many times made the story nearly unbearable. The author veered off the topic and plot so many times it was oppressive. It started to feel like I was literally suffocating under the weight of...too much fluff n stuff. I wanted to get to the good part. You know, all the action that the author showed on TikTok, the stuff that grabbed the reader's attention and wouldn't let go until the reader was hooked enough to be locked into reading the story...only to be disappointed at every turn because...guess what? The scenes in the TikTok videos didn't show up the way they were portrayed. There was a point in this story that didn't sit well with me, but only because I don't usually enjoy reading about a three-way, mfm action. But the author introduced it in the middle of the book. Cade was in control, directing the actions of Izzy and the other man, telling them what they could and could not do. It didn't go further than a touch here and there from the other man before Cade called a halt to his involvement. This wasn't like a reverse harm or the usual mfm novel, but for this author? It just didn't fit this series...and there was no forewarning of it either. However, even though he told Izzy he would indulge some of her fantasies, Cade also told her he would be the only one to have sex with her, so it wasn't a complete mfm threesome. When it was over, Cade sent the other man on his way, making certain he understood he would not be making a return visit ever again. He then admitted that, although he always enjoyed hearing her "get off" and having sex with her, he enjoyed it more when it was just the two of them. So, it made no sense for the author to introduce a third party into their intimacies. After that night, everything was calmer and more relaxed than the story had been up to that point. The two main characters started getting along better, there were fewer arguments, etc. But you know what? The author didn't let us actually participate in that. We didn't get to witness it in ink. We were just told by the author that things had settled. We didn't get to read about the actual changes as they happened. It was just un fait complet (a completed fact). Then all hell broke loose. A decade-long secret from Izzy's past found its way to the light and destroyed everything it touched. Once again, things changed. But they went backward. No, they didn't go back to the ugly attitudes, but they pretty much took a break from each other, thanks to the revelation that came from Izzy's past. She just couldn't get past it. That's right...SHE couldn't. Not Cade. He tried to help her understand what happened, but she wouldn't listen to him, so she pushed him away...like she always pushed people away. The twists and turns this book made were mind-boggling and a tad overwhelming at times. When the action started (it wasn't until around chapter 23), then the reader could see what the TikTok clips were about...but there was still too much fluff n stuff interfering with the drama, angst, and plot. This whole book was exactly what the title stated...it was corrupt and it was chaotic. The corruption (yes, the sexual corruption, as well as the mob side of corruption) wasn't half-bad. But the chaos? I could have done without 9/10ths of it. Reading this was like having your teeth pulled...all of them...all at the exact same time. It was excruciatingly painful...and so freaking long with all the fluff n stuff. Yes, I know I've mentioned that multiple times, but...O.M.G. it was full of dead air. I will admit that, by the epilogue, I had a slight change in whether or not I liked Izzy. No, she didn't redeem herself completely. She was still very much a brat and a b*tch...but I understood her better by the end of the story. What she had endured explained why she was the way she was...but it didn't excuse her or let her off the hook for her poor treatment of those around her. But she did mature some by the end. Cade was a decent character. I liked him better than Izzy, although I didn't care for all of the back-and-forth arguing between the two. But they both grew up by the ending, thus allowing the story to earn a 3.5-star rating. It wasn't as good as the first two books, but at least it improved, right?
