Nothing makes me happier than helping my serious, reclusive boss…but his next project requires a wife!

I’m a meek little mouse of an assistant, who calls my boss “Mr. Newton Smith” more often than not, but when I overhear that Rufus’s business partner is bent on embarrassing him for inventing a fake fiancée, I know I need to reinvent myself immediately—as his wife-to-be.
But I only expect a single night of playing pretend. I don’t expect every detail Rufus has told people about his fake fiancée to be…me. And now I have to re-evaluate every careful look he’s ever given me, every quiet lean against my desk, and how he rumbles that I’m a good girl.
The truth is, though, that I don’t feel good. I feel deeply wicked for how far I want to take this game of make believe. I want Mr. Newton Smith to consummate our fake relationship and make it very, very real, and take my V-card while he’s at it.

Wife Project is a short, spicy novella about an innocent assistant and the big man who has been waiting for her his whole life.

Wife Project was about 23-year-old Clover Jane Armstrong, personal assistant, and her boss, 36-year-old Rufus Newton Smith. Side Note: While this wasn't part of the Conception Ridge series, the FMC's hometown was Conception Ridge. Just wanted to throw that in. LOL Clover had been working as the PA for Rufus for the past year, and she had a massive crush on him, although she never mentioned it and never let it show. After finishing up a project they had been working on for some time, Rufus told her to go home early because he had some personal business to attend to. Before she had the chance to leave, his business partner showed up and she overheard him asking Rufus about his fiancee, which upset her enough to cause her to leave without letting her boss know, even though he had asked her to do so. As she was leaving, she overheard the business partner talking on the phone, and he was not saying nice things about her boss. The man even said he didn't believe that Rufus was engaged and looked forward to embarrassing him at the fancy restaurant they were all supposed to be meeting at. That didn't sit well with Clover, so she decided to get a quick makeover and show up for dinner and pretend to be her boss's fiancee. What she learned during the dinner was that Rufus had actually used her middle name for that of his fiancee...and he used her background information as well. All of which pointed to the fact that her boss had feelings for her too. This was a quick, quirky, and enjoyable novella. It had all of the angst and drama of a full-length novel, with a generous amount of humor and spice that kept it interesting. I loved how the two main characters actually played off each other without there being any push/pull between them. It was only angsty when the business partner and his date tried to screw up the dinner. Both of the main characters were well-developed and mature, with just enough room to allow some growth to take place. There was only one drawback to the story, and that was some grammatical errors that briefly caught the reader's attention, but it wasn't enough to spoil the story. It was definitely worthy of a four-star rating.

Short sharp sweet 0-100 in the romance department with the whole story around the two MCs giving into their love for each other. A bit cliche boss assistant romance but a fun quick read. A bit annoying with the “mister” and “good girl” trope.
