Three years ago, Jacob Price walked away.
After a whirlwind steamy affair, my father’s best friend broke my heart.
He told me things were too complicated. Messy. Wrong.
That we could never be together.
I knew he loved me but the fear of ruining our family was too great.
With too much at stake, he sacrificed our hearts and ended it.
Now, he’s back and he still wants me.
He still loves me.
But now, I’m engaged to another man.

What Was Meant To Be, a part of the Blurred Lines series, was about Dr. Jacob "JP" Price and Whitney Monroe. Jacob was the best friend of Kevin and Michelle Monroe, Whitney's parents, and Whitney's godfather. He was also a doctor who often traveled the globe with Doctors Without Borders. Jacob was 20 years older than Whitney, at the age of 42. Not long after Whitney turned 18, and shortly before her high school graduation, Jacob returned from a year-long assignment with Doctors Without Borders. His first glimpse of Whitney had him seeing her in a different light. As for her, Whitney had always had a crush on her godfather, but it had slowly turned into romantic love. For the next two years, Jacob and Whitney had a relationship that no one else knew about, choosing to spend all their free time with each other and not tell anyone for fear of tearing Whitney's family apart, and causing Jacob to lose his long-time friends. It slowly began to eat away at Jacob, and he eventually broke it off with her, choosing to take another assignment with Doctors Without Borders. He was gone for three years until he got an invitation in the mail that said Whitney was getting married and he was invited to the engagement party. He returned to the states immediately with the intention of confessing his love to her...and to her family. But things weren't as cut and dried as he expected them to be. After Jacob had broken things off with her and left for Mexico, Whitney had a pretty close call with a nervous breakdown. Without her brother, Mason, or their cousin, Chloe, she would probably have succumbed to more than just a deep depression that lasted for just over a year. She eventually came out of it and met her fiance, Parker. While he wasn't Jacob, she felt as though she could finally move on, so when he proposed, she said yes. She was shocked to learn that Jacob had returned from his latest assignment, and was intending on making a play for her. Even though this was a short novella, it packed a punch of emotions. Angst was high, as was the drama. But the main emotions were fear (of being discovered and ostracized), anxiety, and lust (or was it love?). The rollercoaster ride wasn't just with the emotions, though. The storyline was all over the place. Sometimes it felt a bit convoluted, and at other times it was a stretch of the imagination to even make sense of it all. while it wasn't the best of stories, it was still quite enjoyable and deserved a four-star rating.
