Unexpected Eva, the third and final book of the Triple Trouble series, was about Eva Wallace, the eldest of the Wallace triplet sisters, and Knox Black, the millionaire hotelier (and her father's best friend, although Knox was only 14 years older than Eva). Also thrown into the mix was Lincoln Black, Knox's son (who gets his own book titled Lincoln, Book 1 of The Boys of Castleview Cove series), who also vies for the attention of Eva. Eva, who was recently separated and going through a divorce from her husband, Ewan, had offered dance lessons to be auctioned to benefit a local charity. Knox and his son, Lincoln, got into a bidding war, raising the amount to the shocking height of 80,000 pounds...with Knox winning the bid. As Eva was leaving the event, she overheard Knox and Lincoln arguing over the lessons...and her. After both men apologized and Lincoln had left, Knox and Eva continued the flirtation that had started (off-page) the year before. When he invited her to spend the night with him, Eva agreed. The offer turned into one where she would stay the entire weekend with him. Again, she said yes. There was a lot of inner dialogue, especially from Knox...too much for my enjoyment, to be honest. I prefer it when the author allows the characters to interact with each other more than they do the introspection garbage. That stuff makes it feel more like fluff than anything worth reading. Unlike the first two books, this one was more realistic...almost too real-to-life in so many ways. Also, the fact that Eva was married, albeit separated, made it less enjoyable because of the cheating aspect. Then there were the spicy scenes that...well...weren't really spicy at all. Oh, there were plenty of sexy times, don't get me wrong on that. But they were one or two steps away from fade-to-black and not at all hot or steamy. Eva's estranged husband caused some serious emotional (and physical) damage to Eva and their sons (not physical to the boys, just to Eva). His alcohol addiction had gotten out of hand and it turned him into a mean S.O.B. But even worse was the woman who had been sleeping with Knox, and how she exposed the relationship between Knox and Eva to her parents and the entire town, prompting Eva's father to make her choose between Knox and her family. When Eva chose Knox, her father cut her off from the family...until Knox wouldn't let her turn away from her family. Knox made the choice to walk away from Eva to spare her from losing her family...and broke her heart in the process. This story had so many twists and turns that it boggled the mind. It could easily have ended ten to fifteen chapters sooner and still have been a well-written novel. However, it was drawn out with a bit too much fluff n stuff...but still good enough to spend time reading. The emotions were all over the place in this book. The angst and drama were way over the top, and the heartache was more than enough to draw out the tissues from time to time. The characters were well-developed and, for the most part, mature, with an exception or two. All in all, it was a nice way to end the trilogy, even if it didn't merit a five-star rating. It was just too long and had too much fluff to be worth the full accolades.
