Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the court of King Peleus and his perfect son Achilles. By all rights their paths should never cross, but Achilles takes the shamed prince as his friend, and as they grow into young men skilled in the arts of war and medicine their bond blossoms into something deeper – despite the displeasure of Achilles’ mother Thetis, a cruel sea goddess. But then word comes that Helen of Sparta has been kidnapped. Torn between love and fear for his friend, Patroclus journeys with Achilles to Troy, little knowing that the years that follow will test everything they hold dear.

Profoundly moving and breathtakingly original, this rendering of the epic Trojan War is a dazzling feat of the imagination, a devastating love story, and an almighty battle between gods and kings, peace and glory, immortal fame and the human heart.

I've been wanting to read this book for ages, and I'm so glad I finally did. My tears are still drying on my face as I'm typing this. It was such a beautiful book and has taken it's place as my new favourite.

Personally, I'd give this three stars. Don't get me wrong I did like the book, but I didn't feel anything at the end (no spoilers). Before the trojan war was calming but just enough to keep you interested. The characters were there but weren't shown their true colors yet (they were children growing to adolescence) which made you excited for their potential. Then things went downhill. After was action-packed and seemed like another book entirely. Some decisions were stupidly made (looking at you Achilles), characters seemed water-downed, and you just couldn't feel that beautiful love between Patronus and Achilles. The ending for me was just eh at that point. Tik-Tok just hyped up a book more than it was supposed to be again. it seemed greater than it was. Then again, I don't blame the author because this was their first.

P.S. Achilles mother, ya know the sea nymph Theis, is a complete and utter bitch. She is a greek (minor) goddess after all.
