The Second Dance by Jordan Trygg
They keep telling me I broke his heart.
Well, he broke mine first.
Andy
I never wanted to come back to Silver Bend.
To say high school was awful would be a grand understatement.
I was the star of a scandal that nearly destroyed me.
It just figures that co-star of that little soap opera is the donor I’m stuck working with.
Bo Thomas.
The golden child. The one who got whatever he wanted.
Including my heart.
I can’t stand being near him again.
But with my job in the balance, it’s not looking like I have much of a choice.
The only thing that ever made perfect sense, every time, was when she was in my arms.
Bo
My parents’ divorce battle might as well have been front page news.
Just wait until everyone realizes my mom donated some of our best farmland to a bunch of bird lovers.
The real punchline to the joke is that the foundation’s project lead also happens to be the one girl I never got over.
For as long as I can remember, she’s been the girl of my dreams.
Even after dragging her through the mud, I still want her.
I never ever meant for her to get hurt. But it happened like that anyway.
I know it’s not fair. Or right.
But my heart wants what it wants.
And I have never, not for one second, stopped wanting her.
The Second Dance is a scorching-hot slow burn romance about two opposites getting a second chance at love. Vicious rumors cut their relationship short. He was the only man she ever loved and the only man who ever broke her heart. Andy escaped her past, leaving her hometown and the rumors behind. When a work project throws them back together, it seems history is about to repeat itself.

The heroine was extremely irritating 😠 and often irrational. She was always running away, never left the hero finish the conversation. And was often very cold towards him. She always blamed or judged him unfairly and very quickly. I find there should have been more balance in her character. She just did not do it for me. And the her blind faith in an undeserving best friend. For example (SPOILER ALERT from here on!!!!): When her best friend Whitney finally owned up to her shit, instead of she telling her off and closing that chapter correctly ( meaning putting the damn girl in her place and confronting her). She again chooses to walk away. Not giving the so called best friend a piece of her mind after all the wrongs that girl did to her. Jezus, that was one hard pill to swallow as a reader. She was a total bitch to the hero (more often than not unfairly) and was always able to say shit to him. But a best friend who has sabotaged her relationship with the love of her life and kept doing it up till the very end, and she has no words 😶 to say to this friend. She never gets to say anything to her as a matter of fact. This made the book feel like it was a loose end. The same as Bo’s parent … geez the book could have better centered around them with all the drama. The man (Bo’s father) was unfaithful and hurt his wife the worst way possible and her kids had no idea. How?? That town spread news like wildfire. Its a constant in the book! No secretaris stay a secret in that town. So how did this escape the hero? After the hero found out what exactly was the last straw that made his mother divorce his father, he never gets to confront his dad about the acts he did against his mother. No scene between father and son about this. Just some stupid confirmation scene that felt stupid. There was never a scene with Bo and the mother talking things out. Again a loose end, because trust me that was long overdue. And his fathers attitude towards his misdemeanors was just so wrong 😑. He was like yep I have my faults, I loved your mother I really did … blablablabla… the exact quote is as following: He shrugs. “I’m a flawed man, son. If I could go back and do it over, I would. But even though I made mistakes, I’m still glad we had the years we had. If you look at the whole picture, the good outweighed the bad. Your mother and I just used up all the time we were allotted. It’s okay for a chapter to be over. Sometimes you just got to turn the page.” Hell …. Dude really 😠 you glad you had all years you had … acting like she passed away. He was the reason that relationship went to hell. Sounded like a cop out … man should have been groveling to his ex wife. That he was still doing what he had been doing for years, felt like he had no regrets. He got off easy. Wished he suffered more. That is love was shown more. Celibacy! Regrets! Anything but what we got! What kind of example is he showing his kids!!! During marriage hectare a fucked up example and after worse! Wish there was a scene where his mother appears with her new man and make him realize his mistake. Make us reader fell sorry for him. Geezzz I swear his parents stole the show. Book had potential. Just to many things that just felt allround wrong 😑.
