The Merger Bargain by LizAnne Axtel
From rivals to romance, against all odds
Kenadee
Managing the family business and bringing our offerings into the future should be easy, but the board is mired in ‘this is how we’ve always done it’. Then a codicil to Grammy’s will is discovered, declaring I must be married by the age of thirty-two or lose my place in the company. That’s only two months from now.
My laid-back, older brother, who’s been given until he’s thirty-six, finds the whole situation hilarious.
How am I going to find a man I can tolerate in two, short months?
Preston
Within a year I’ll be a billionaire—more successful than I’d believed possible when I started my online business right out of college. I have everything I need. All the trappings of success. Along with everything I want…except my best friend’s little sister.
She turned a cold shoulder to me years ago when we first met and hasn’t warmed up a bit since then. She’s in trouble now, both personal and business. I know just how to help.
Against all the odds, can we forge a strong partnership and turn our rivalry into romance?

The Merger Bargain, Book 6 of the Tendered Vows series, was about soon-to-be 32-year-old Kenadee "DeeDee" Bowman and 33-year-old Preston Hughes, the owner of the educational tech company LearnIt!.
Kenadee met Preston when she was a freshman in college and he was a sophomore. Her brother introduced them but, at the time, she was a bit of a snob. So, even though she was interested in him, she turned her nose up at him because he was "from the wrong side of the tracks". However, she mellowed out after college and lost the snobby attitude, for the most part.
Faced with a newly discovered codicil to her late grandmother's will (three years after she died), Kenadee learned that she had to be married to keep her place with the family company. The codicil stated she had to be married by the age of 32, which was only two months away.
Preston had loved Kenadee from the moment he first met her, but he believed she hated him, so he never made a move on her. But when her brother, and his BFF, told him about the codicil and suggested to him that HE be the man to marry his sister, Preston didn't waste any time in going after the woman he loved.
While this was a really good story, it had its moments that weren't so good. The angst was minuscule, while the drama was high. The emotional rollercoaster had very few twists and turns, making it a bit drab and boring at times.
Although there was only a slight amount of push/pull between the two main characters, there was a decent amount of conflict to keep it from falling too flat. The unfortunate part was that the flow of the story wasn't smooth but choppy, and the book felt incomplete and rushed. It had too many unresolved issues by the end of the book, so the reader felt the story's lack of information to the point of being disappointed.
The two main characters were both well-developed and mature, with plenty of room for growth. They just seemed a bit dense for having waited over ten years to be together. The secondary characters were pretty good, but there was too much focus on them at times and not enough on the hero and heroine.
I gave this a solid three-star rating. It was better than most of the previous stories in the series even though it was still lacking in content.
