Kane
I’ll admit it. I’m not a good man. I make my living on the shady side of the dollar. It’s the hand I was dealt as a kid with nothing. But, even so, that doesn’t mean I’d put my own kid in a cage and treat her like bait for sharks. There’s something about Laurel Steiner that makes me want to shield her from all the dirtiness in this city. Can this bad man be good enough for her?

Laurel
Everyone in the city has heard of Kane Santino. He’s a big bad man who is all bite, no bark. You won’t get a warning before he smushes you into dust. It just happens. One minute you’re there and the next minute, your building is blown up. My father refused to sell and put me in a cage to lure someone else to save him. Of course, no one showed up. No one that is except Kane Santino. He seems to want to lock me in a new prison. It’s pretty and warm but I don’t know that I can handle a man like Kane. Can a girl like me really be bad enough for him?

The Good Bad Man was about Kane Santino, a crime boss, and Laurel Steiner, the daughter of a local dry cleaner. Kane wasn't a good man, although he wasn't 100% bad either. He was at least decent to Laurel, for the most part. When he wanted something, nothing stood in his way. So when he wanted some prime property, he wasn't above using dirty tactics to get the owners to sell. All of the previous owners had sold their businesses and/or buildings to him except for Laurel's father. Because he had a deadline set to start building a new business, Kane sent his men to deal with the man in the only way he understood...brute force and violence. What he hadn't expected was for his crew to tell him that the man who owned the dry cleaning business had a female locked up in a dog cage in the back rooms of the store. Kane told them to take the girl to him. The relationship between Kane and Laurel involved a lot of push/pull between them, and the book was full of angst and drama. There were betrayals, kidnappings, attempted suicide, and quite a bit of violence throughout this story. The emotional rollercoaster ride was full of twists and turns that kept the reader glued to the pages. Both of the main characters were fully developed, but there was some immaturity on both sides. For the FMC, her immaturity was a bit more expected since she had been mostly sequestered by her abusive father all her life. But where the MMC was concerned, the immaturity was unexpected because he was supposedly much older than the FMC, although their ages were never fully revealed. The only hint towards that was the FMC mentioning in an inner dialogue that she had graduated high school at some point. No mention of when, though. The MMC, being the head of his mafia crew, would probably be in his mid to late 30s, or even older. Anyway, it was a bit convoluted at times, with scenes that were OTT and not quite so realistic. It was also a bit underwhelming. But it was an enjoyable, although far-fetched story, so I gave it a 3-star rating.

you get into an ella goode booking knowing either you'll be reading one of the most horrendous piece of literature or disturbing, horrendous piece of literature. she's written like 2-3 okay maybe decent books and sadly it seems like she wants it to remain that way.

It's that "trash Vs garbage" meme personified
