The Forbidden Bride He Stole was about 35-year-old Apollo Agassi and his ward, 22-year-old Hannah West.

Apollo had been friends and business acquaintances with Hannah's parent long before her birth. When her parents died together in an accident when she was sixteen, her father had made him her legal guardian. From that age until 22, Hannah had been in love with him but hid it because she felt it was pointless.

When she started to rebel against his guardianship, Apollo not only grew angrier, but more strict as well. He informed her that, while she would inherit her father's business and receive her trust fund at the age of 25 or if she married before then, he could add another five years if she continued to act out. Wanting to get away from him to protect her heart, Hannah determined her only recourse was to marry someone else. So, while he was out of the country, she made a plan to marry a co-worker/friend. According to her father's will, she only had to stay married for a year in order to honor the contract.

Upon returning home, Apollo learned she was to marry in two days, and he was furious. So he made some decisions behind her back and on the day she was to marry her friend, Apollo showed up at the chapel and confronted the young man with his history of criminality, threatening to turn him over to the police. He then took his place and told Hannah she would be marrying him instead.

This was a very emotional story, full of angst, drama, pain from both past and present situations, and a lot of heartache. The emotional rollercoaster was in full swing but with more twists and turns than usual.

The two main characters, while fully developed and fleshed out, were both broken and shaped by their traumatic pasts. While they were both adults, they were still stunted by how their histories had shaped their characters, personalities, and especially their emotions. While that could have made their relationship toxic, in all honesty, it worked to pull them together

I gave this story a four-star rating only because I wanted more. I think the book was a bit too short for the emotional ride it gave, and the ending needed to be longer so that the two main characters had more time to work things out. An epilogue would have made it that much better, too. Still, it was a great story with an HFN.
