I have to say...I struggled with this one. The opening scene was just as graphic and violent as the first, but in this instance it was younger children, preteen and early teen, being terrorized. The angst that this book started off with only escalates as the book goes deeper into the story and, in my opinion, drew out the drama far more than necessary to reach its ultimate goal. Both the Heroine and the Hero could easily have teamed up much earlier in the book and solved the mysteries they were each seeking answers to without having to add so much extra, unnecessary information, angst and drama. There is a limit to what an author should put into their story and there is the problem of overuse of information, which I felt this book had. With that said, the story was well written and all the angst, drama, and intrigue were prevalent throughout the book. However, in this one, it was more of a murder/mystery/intrigue novel than it was romance. The book lacked the passion and romance that the other two books were rife with. So many more of the chapters were dedicated to the mystery than were to the romance/passion between the hero and heroine. In fact, it wreaked more of a spy novel than romance. The brutality this author seems to enjoy inserting into her many novels is, for want of a better word, scary. One wonders what she has or has not seen in her own life to be able to write about these things with such great detail.
