Step-Crush by Dani Wyatt
I should have kept my mouth shut when the FBI showed up at my door.
Answering their questions about my billionaire stepfather’s mafia connections has landed me in the trunk of his car.
Since he and my mom parted ways, he’s been in the background of my life lurking, but I’ve always known he was there, ya know? That prickly feeling on the back of your neck that tells you someone is watching.
But now he wants something else from me.
Something more permanent.
He says he’s a man of honor, so he makes sure we are married before…well, the real action starts.
Turns out, he likes a little fight and a lot of chase. I’m not a girl who goes down easy, but for Ramses Moreno, it turns out I’ll do almost anything.
Author’s Note: Get ready for a healthy dose of unhealthy love. And, never fear, there was nothing but a piece of paper between the hero and the former wife. There’s a lot of hot action and almost no plot. So, be warned, this over the top and out of control hero doesn’t take no for an answer. Always safe, no cheating, all the steamy feels and their own kind of HEA.
This is the last of the WANTING WHAT’S WRONG series of standalones.

Step-Crush, part of the Wanting What's Wrong series, was about 41-year-old Ramses Maurizio Alexander Moreno, IV, the owner and CEO of Moreno Consolidated Industries, and 20-year-old Bijou (no last name given), a college student.
Side Note: The only spoiler I'm going to give about this book is to say...all was not as it seemed. There was a twist that even the best sleuth would miss no matter how hard they tried.
This was not the usual mafia/romance book that readers have come to expect. While it was a dark romance from the very first paragraph, filled with a high dosage of angst and drama, it also had elements that would turn some people off. Things like knife and gunplay. This book took those particular kinks to a level I've yet to encounter. So much so that there was a point where I almost stopped reading the story.
The emotional rollercoaster had more than the normal twists and turns, and they were sometimes nauseating, but in a good way. While there were some grammatical and punctuation errors, they didn't detract from the flow of the story. The fluff was a bit too much, though, causing the story to drag a bit. But in the end, when things started to make sense, it was almost excusable....almost.
Both the main characters were a little difficult to relate to, though. I can't say they were fully developed or mature because they weren't. Both left much to be desired for most of the story. The MMC was intensely unlikable, and the FMC was TSTL for most of the book.
I gave the book a three-star rating, only because the author did a really good job in pulling the wool over the eyes of the reader. As stated previously, this story wasn't what it seemed, and it ended better than it began. It's rare that an author can surprise me like this. It was a nice change of pace.
