Summer, sunshine and fun.
That’s Sicily.
A two-week girls’ trip promises much and delivers more… so much more.
Saving a stranger from certain peril throws me in the path of one hot as hell Italian. Little did I know this random act of kindness would change my life forever.
The hunger in his eyes is blinding, making me want to forget that holiday flings are not for me. But can I resist the most attractive and powerful man I’ve ever met when he’s hell-bent to have me?
It feels like puzzle pieces are falling into place, like fate has brought me and this mouthwatering powerhouse together.
My heart screams, ‘you’ve found HIM’, but my head urges me to run. Is it just irrational fear? Or is danger truly lurking in the shadows?
And when I finally make the choice, will it all be too late?

Side Note: There was a book written before this one called Highland Escapade, and it was about Rhianna, who was the BFF of the heroine of this story. It explains more about their relationship and how she met her significant other. It would probably be a good idea to start with that story before reading this trilogy.

Sicilian Sunset, Book 1 of The Triple Flame trilogy, was about 26-year-old Ella Rose O'Neil, a guide dog trainer, and 32-year-old Gualtiero "Tiero" Leandro De Marco, the CEO of De Marco Corporation, and Sicilian Crime Boss.

The book was told from a dual POV, however, Tiero only had about 5 chapters written from his perspective. All of the other chapters were Ella's POV. That was more than a little frustrating. The angst and drama were off the chart high, but there was never any real reason pointed out to the reader because everything was kept suspenseful, other than Tiero's inner monologue about the person who had tried to take him out at the beginning. He downplayed the danger for the entire book. There was also more introspection than dialogue between the two main characters, most of which was done by Ella. Even when they were together, the inner monologue prevailed, which was very disappointing. The book also had too much fluff-n-stuff, to the point it bogged the story down and made it a yawn-fest. Too often the FMC talked about HER past in an inner monologue, things that really didn't pertain to the story itself.

The book's short prologue takes place in a Scottish bar where a drunken prophecy was chanted over Ella about her soul being "not one but three" and that she had to "find all parts...to be fully free". Sometime later (it wasn't until almost the end that the author revealed two years spanned between the prologue and chapter 1), Ella and her BFF Rhianna "Rhia", along with Rhia's sister, were vacationing together in Sicily. While shopping one day, Ella wandered away from her friend when she noticed a handsome man nearby. When she realized a car had jumped the sidewalk and was barreling towards him, she leaped into its path, knocking him down and to safety.

From the moment their eyes met after the incident, Tiero was determined that Ella would be his. Just as determined was Ella to avoid him at all costs. Unfortunately for her, the cards were stacked against her as even her BFF and the sister were hellbent on pushing her to hook up with Tiero.

The two main characters weren't together as frequently as one would expect from a romance novel. More often than not, the story revolved around Ella, her friend, and (for a time) her friend's sister. There was also the amount of time the author spent telling tales from the past, both with the three women as well as when the MMC and the FMC were together. It was quite frustrating.

While the two main characters were fully developed, they each lacked a bit of maturity, especially the FMC. She waffled so much in her decision-making that it became boring to read about. The girl just couldn't make up her mind. As for the MMC, he was like a bull in a china shop, especially in the way he bulldozed the FMC into doing what he wanted all the time. He disregarded almost everything she said by making her do what he believed was right. The fact that he kept his secrets from her was what put her in danger. Hopefully, somewhere in the next two books, these two will try to grow up.

The book spent too much time discussing whether or not Ella should pursue a "vacation fling" with Tiero. It got to the point that I wanted to slap a couple of people, namely Ella's BFF and the BFF's sister. It was definitely overkill. The fact that the author made the BFF and the BFF's sister (who was REALLY quite slutty throughout the book) out to be freer with sharing themselves, and they both pushed Ella to "just do it" and to "get out of your comfort zone" was more than a little uncomfortable to read, and it went on for at least an entire chapter. Worse than that was how frequently her BFF pushed her to have intimate times with Tiero. This went on until it actually happened. It was almost as if the FMC wasn't worthy to be their friend unless she learned to "do casual" as much as they did.

While it was a decent story, even one that ended in a cliffhanger, it didn't earn a five-star rating. There were too many unresolved issues, too many dead-end plot paths, and too many grammatical errors. The fluff-n-stuff was horrible as well. Therefore, I only gave it a three-star rating. I will read the rest of the books, hoping that they will each be better than this one.
