Scorned Heir, Book 1 of the Scorned Fate series, was about 26-year-old Seraphina "Sera" Moretti, the "Moretti Mafia Princess", and 27-year-old Matteo De Lucci, the head of De Lucci Transnational corporation.

Side Note: Matteo was the eldest child of Cesar and Ava De Lucci, the main characters from De Lucci's Obsession, which should be read before this series.

Sera had had a crush on Daniel Wu, her BFF's brother, for as long as she could remember. However, she also knew that, as a mafia princess, she was destined for an arranged marriage...and NOT to Daniel. Matteo told her that if she "fake dated" him, then perhaps that would create enough jealousy in Daniel for him to fall for Sera. It ended up backfiring on everyone. The man she was pledged to learned of Matteo's attention towards Sera, and he was not happy that some other guy was showing interest in his woman.

The rest of the book was wrapped around Matteo trying to extricate himself from the mess he created by lying to Sera, and the consequences that followed. There were some plot twists which were expected, but some of them were surprising as they cropped up.

The concept of time was way off in this book. There were moments when the author made the reader think weeks or months had passed when, in fact, it had only been hours or even a couple of days. That wasn't very clear.

The angst and drama were both high in this story, but the emotional rollercoaster was off the charts, as is typical when it involves anything to do with the mafia. The plot twists were overflowing, but not to the point that they interfered with the smooth flow of the book.

Both main characters were well-developed and mature, with plenty of room for growth. The supporting characters were great, and it was good to read about the characters both from past and future books. The epilogue was not only used to end this story, but it opened the doorway to the next book in the series.

I gave this book a four-star rating. It was well-written and the characters were interesting, even the "bad guys". I look forward to reading the rest of the books as they become available.
