Protector of Convenience by Victoria Paige
A marriage of convenience will protect her life, but will it protect her heart?
Love is a lie and families don’t last.
They die a brutal death.
Ariana Ortega knows this more than anyone.
With her brother’s enemies stalking her, she contemplates a deal with the devil.
Until the man who betrayed her returns with an offer that is hard to resist.
Love is real and family is everything.
They’d die to protect each other.
Migs Walker knows this more than anything.
When the life of the woman he craves is threatened, he’s ready to make a deal with the devil.
And protect her at all costs.
As the cartel escalates into violence, ghosts from the past and specters in the present collide.
Unless Migs can convince Ariana to trust the love between them and around them, history will repeat itself.

Protector Of Convenience, Book 2 of the Rogue Protectors series, was about 36-year-old Miguel "Migs" Alcantara Walker and Ariana Ortega, the sister of a now-deceased crime lord. After the death of her brother, Ariana's business tanked and she lost her lease because of her connection to the cartels in the area. When a friend and former employee told her that her 15-year-old daughter had been kidnapped due to her connection with Ariana, she had no other choice but to contact another man of questionable reputation for help. Billionaire Antonio Andrades' solution to her problem was for her to marry him, but another man, Migs, wasn't about to let that happen. Migs, who worked for the CIA, had been deep undercover in the Ortega organization, and his role there had been to protect Ariana at all costs. When he "went rogue" and helped out his other friends in bringing Ortega down, the CIA yanked his security clearances and put him on a desk job. However, after learning about Ariana having contacted Andrades for help, he and his other buddies went on high alert to protect her. This was actually a continuation of the story from Book 1 (although it wasn't a cliffhanger), as the two main characters were secondary characters in the first story. The angst and drama levels were pretty high in this book, but so was the fluff. There was way too much filler in this story, and it got in the way a lot. The twists and turns in this book were plentiful, as were the betrayals. The plot and storyline were well-written and kept the reader glued to the pages of the book. It did get boring after a while, but that was due to the length and the filler, not the storyline. It could have ended 5-10 chapters sooner and still been a good book. As it stands, I could only give it a four-star rating.
