Violet Townsend died eight years ago, the day that her father’s will stipulated that she marry a stranger. The last time she laid eyes upon her husband was the eve of their wedding, when he had her shipped off to be educated at an elite finishing school—which turned out to be a nightmare come to life. After engineering a daring escape, Violet reinvented herself to avoid detection, living beneath assumed names, working in menial positions, always on the run…and always aware that her husband had never stopped searching for her.

John Darling had not wanted a wife thrust upon him—particularly not a seventeen-year-old girl who had best been described as ‘headstrong’ and ‘willful.’ But when Violet fled her finishing school and he had discovered the truth of what had occurred there, he had been forced to confront the ruin he had made of her life. In the years since, he has tracked her across England, collecting the pieces of the lives she has left in her wake, and finding that the image of the woman revealed through them isn’t at all what he imagined her to be.

Now resurrected, Violet has a life that belongs to her once again, a home, and a career as a teacher at her dearest friend’s newly-founded school of deportment. But when her long-estranged husband arrives upon her doorstep as one of her students, it threatens to usurp everything Violet has struggled to build. Only, her husband isn’t quite the cold, unfeeling man from her memories. He claims only to want to get to know her, to make amends…but how could she possibly trust him?

I loved the plot and the characters 😍 It got a little too wordy and the sentences were so back too back that it made the eyes tire but otherwise a beautiful book nonetheless ✨ I hope to read the first and third book of this series aswell

I really loved the plot of John searching for his missing wife of 8 years . They both have gone through so much anguish, it was heart wrenching. Unfortunately, a story cannot just drive itself on bucketfuls of tragedy- it needs the right back up too. I felt John was forgiven very easily and furthermore, he hasn't really put in much effort to really woo her. A few pieces of cake?seriously?that was belittling. I also felt it needed a secondary lighter plot to bring in some respite to the readers. Too much of repetitions, very tedious. There were all these extra characters who were introduced for a purpose but without any focus there stick out - viz.Mr, Simmons infatuation with Violet is in only John's words only- there's no romance between them in any form - his grandfather , the Earl. Lost causes truly.

I really loved the Duchess and her relationship with her son. - looking forward to Alex's HEA.

In an endeavour to keep the romances light, authors aren't really putting themsevles out completely and honestly to write a full rounded book. A romance doesn't only have to have steamy scenes, it needs depth of plot and characterization. These authors are just skimming the tops to keep them to be just presentable, that as a reader I'm feeling short changed. I'm a mature adult and can easily accept , appreciate and comprehend a romance woven with tragedy and comedy. The 2 faces of a mask?

Cute. But I got bored around chapter 22 and DNF. Too much repeated inner dialogue so skim read and skipped much along the way.

My Darling Mr. Darling was about Miss Violet Townsend, the only child of the late Mr. Townsend, the former owner of a shipping company, and Mr. John Darling, the business partner of the late Mr. Townsend.Side note: If the reader is one who relishes proper grammar, this book suffers from the lack of such things. There are so many that it boggles the mind. But if you can look past those errors, you might just find enjoyment in this story. At the young age of 17, Violet lost not only her father but her home and even her very freedom. According to her late father's will, if she did not marry John, neither one of them would receive their inheritance from him. Before the ink was even dried on the marriage license, John, angry for being forced to wed the "hellion" he thought Violet to be, immediately had her shipped off to a finishing school where he believe she would be trained in the finer arts of deportment, without realizing the kind of treatment she would actually receive in such a place. Having endured six months of horrifying abuse at the hands of the headmistress and instructors of the school, Violet made a daring escape...and vanished. John did not learn of her disappearance for several months. Once he did, with demon upon demon heaped upon his soul for each of the atrocities he learned had happened to Violet at that school, he spent the next 8 years doing his best to track her down, only to come up empty-handed as she managed to evade him each time he got close, until she eventually ended up back in London, working as a teacher at her best friend's brand new school of deportment. John began to slowly get to know Violet, even though she fought him at every turn. He had chosen to become one of her students, hoping to learn about her...and to find a way to correct the wrongs he had unwittingly thrust upon her. Struggling with remorse and guilt in regards to the past, John was uncertain as to how to proceed, sometimes choosing the wrong path and failing further with Violet. The entire book was full of such overpowering angst and drama that it was nearly suffocating. While there was a touch of humor in the story, it wasn't enough to lighten the mood of the book. For most of the book, there was so little chemistry and romance between the two main characters, even though they were married, that it wasn't a true romance novel. They were total strangers linked together by the death of Violet's father, the business he left to both of them, and the tragedies that had been thrust upon Violet because of it all. Although the book was decent, it was decidedly way too long. It could have been completed in 20-25 chapters rather than the 32 plus epilogue. It had a lot of unnecessary fluff that detracted from the main story, so much so that it soon became a bit boring and lost the thrill of reading. I had to put it down and walk away several times, which should not happen with a good book. I like books that hold my attention to the point I can't put it down till I finish it. While I enjoyed the story, it was way too easy to set aside and forget. It was only worthy of maybe 3 stars, but it won't be added to my Keeper for the Shelves collection.
