When my best friend, Becca, suddenly passes away during childbirth, I’m left completely devastated. We had been friends since we were kids, growing up in small town Lake Forest, just outside of Chicago. I have few memories in my life without her by my side.
Her husband, Liam, is struggling to balance his new life as a father and a detective for the Chicago police department. Since I have the summer off as a kindergarten teacher, I offer to help him out and take care of Harper two days a week.
I instantly fall in love with her. Even though Becca is gone, I feel closer to her when I’m with Harper. I love the moments I have with Harper and hope Becca is looking down on us with a smile.
Suddenly, things between Liam and I start to change. Like when he answers the door in nothing but a towel, water dripping down his tight abs, and I cannot seem to take my eyes off the droplets cascading down. I know it’s wrong, I know I shouldn’t feel this way, but his stares and touches start to linger, leading me to believe I am not the only one feeling this way.
How long can we hold off these feelings that are quickly developing? My friends say we both deserve to be happy, but does everybody feel that way?
