Hate to Burn, a part of the Single Dad Billionaires series was about Jack Kowski, the Captain of the fire department, and Taylor Silverstone, the only female firefighter in town.

Jack and Taylor had known each other since childhood. He was her brother's BFF and had helped him take care of her when Cole and Taylor lost their parents when she was a teenager. Although Taylor had a teenage crush on her brother's BFF, she never told him about it, and he even went on to marry someone else and have a family with her. Taylor moved away for some time, only to return after breaking up with her long-time boyfriend.

Once she had moved back to their small town and joined his fire department, Jack refused to allow her to go out on calls. Instead, he left her to babysit his son and make certain the team had coffee throughout their shift. But when the fire chief learned about his treatment of her, Jack was reprimanded and told to change his stance with Taylor.

Unfortunately for Taylor, when Jack finally took her on her first call, they ended up getting stuck inside a dilapidated lighthouse in which vagrants had started a fire. Although the fire was long over, the weather was not conducive to them being stuck, and Jack had not informed anyone of where he and Taylor were headed, so no one knew where to start looking for them. While they were trapped, their relationship took an intimate turn, leading to a spicy scene. After having been locked in the lighthouse for quite some time, Taylor soon became ill, causing Jack to begin panicking.

This was a decent love story filled with angst, drama, and a rollercoaster ride full of emotions, including some heartache. There was even a touch of humor at times, but not so much that it detracted from the more serious scenes. However, it was longer than it needed to be, in all honesty. It could have ended several chapters sooner and would have been better in doing so.

Both the main characters were well-developed, mature, and had plenty of room for growth. However, Jack seemed to be not only stunted in his emotional growth, but he also was more wishy-washy than Taylor, even though he was older than her. He had a harder time adapting to his feelings for her than she did for him. Perhaps that was understandable since he had been married before and had suffered a traumatic loss. But then again, he was still acting more of a teenager than his age should have allowed.

It's a bad sign when an author can't remember the names of the characters they created. At one point the MMC called his son "Colin" when, in fact, the boy's name was Aaron. There were also a few grammatical, and punctuational errors that detracted from the flow of the story. Still, the book earned a solid three-star rating.
