Can keeping secrets destroy love? Or is it true what they say: love conquers all?
For years, he’s been a single dad, labeled one of the town’s most eligible bachelors, but that was by design. After all, it’s not only his heart on the line.
The last thing Connor Callahan wants is a wife… let alone one that belonged to his enemy, but that’s precisely what he gets when his father forces his hand.
It was only supposed to be temporary, but once he starts mocking her, calling her “wife,” determined to hate her for a fate he’s been forced to endure… What was said out of spite starts to taste bitter. He thought he knew what he was doing.
She needed protection. He needed answers.
But the lines that were drawn quickly begin to fade into one beautiful smear, as what started out temporary starts to feel like forever.
Or at least it could be if their secrets don’t destroy them first. Connor may have given her his last name for protection, but he never expected to become the victim in his own plot.

Fade Into You, Book 2 of the Summer Nights series, was about 30-year-old Connor "Cal" Callahan and 21-year-old Mackenzie "Mac" Mercer. (Although the author stated that both of the main characters worked at the "Field", the only jobs that were ever clearly defined for either of them were that Connor was a baseball coach and "Owner", and Mackenzie worked at the concession stand.)

Side Note: Let me start by saying that, although this book was full of information dumping, none of it was cohesive, nor did it tell you WHY things were happening the way they were. It was a bunch of hodge-podge thrown together into a mixing pot and left for the reader to unscramble, but without being given a clue as to what should go where. It made the reading of the story uncomfortable and, at times, very boring.

Connor met Mac at a local bar by accident after setting up a one-night stand on Tinder. They had an "oral quickie." She left before he was done with her, and he inadvertently ran into the woman he was actually supposed to hook up with.

It was nearly a week before they met again, but it wasn't quite so pleasant this time. She nearly ran him over on her way to work. He tried to get her fired from her job, but later that day his father forced him to marry her instead.

The book was full of angst, drama, melodrama, conflict, push/pull, secrets, and fluff. The emotional rollercoaster ride was too long, windy, and twisty. It had too many loops and not enough clarity.

Even though it was only 30 chapters long, it was too long and it quickly became boring. By Chapter 12, nothing was really going on, and nothing was being said that helped the reader understand the plot or storyline. The dialogue was few and far between, meaning most of the book was either narrated by the author or used as introspection for each character. But even then, too little was revealed to the reader to make it hold their interest for very long. Everything moved at a snail's pace, and it made for a very boring story. On top of that, the secrets, push/pull, and miscommunications between the two main characters lasted for far too long.

Both main characters were more immature than most I've read about, and these two needed to grow up. However, it took 29 of the 30 chapters for them to make any progress. By then it was too late. Even the spicy scenes were disappointing and far between.

The ending was a little rough and, to some, it may not be what they were looking for. However, it fit the storyline quite well. I gave this book a three-star rating simply because of the facts stated above. Otherwise, it was a good story.

Nice small town romance with some hidden secrets to add some thrills and intrigue. The pace built up throughout the book slowly revealing the back story and subplots but it had a few holes and jumped a little too much leaving some transition pieces out. Cam disappearing doesn’t get explained and the reasons for Mac being where she is isn’t revealed to right at the end. The twist at the end adds some drama and could have played out better especially with the ex’s fell a little flat and anticlimactic. The threat didn’t feel real and wasn’t well developed and didn’t add much to the story. Nice HEA, bonus epilogue would add some further details but need to download separately. Lots of mystery throughout the book with good chemistry between the two MCs and I am sure there is more with the other characters stories Cameron, Everett, Parker and Josh and the rest of the family.
