This is a dark Mafia romance and the author did warm you about the topics in the book. Disturbing as it may be, I could not put the book down. I cried a lot but there was a HEA, that I appreciated. A really good read.
Story sucked
Then let’s talk about the sexual trafficking, because that’s what it is. Kieran waits until vulnerable women come to him for help, uses their situations and circumstances to his advantage to have sex workers at his disposal. The authors tries to reimagine this “trait” by saying, but oh, she’ll make her own money. Keiran is “saving” these women by bringing them from one horrible situation to another.
Kieran is an asshole, not the brooding asshole with a secret loving side, just an asshole. But let’s talk about Ari, who’s honestly one of the most stupidest female characters I’ve read. She is constantly accepting disrespect, not because she’s scared (that would be understandable ) but because that is who she is. A doormat. Despite the numerous times that Kieran has dismissed her love confessions, she chases after him like a school girl. Even when he has constantly endanger her, throw her to the side, disrespected, she is still by his side. He even hangs out with his high school sweetheart on multiple occasions and she is still in love. But oh no, her friend that holds relevantly as little power as she does should have stoped all of this from happening, and because she didn’t, she’s horrible.
There are dark romance stories, and there are dark romance stories. Throughout the book, there wasn’t any feelings that felt as though these people should end up together, if anything, it was quite the opposite. Kieran (mml) constantly disrespects Ari’s feelings (mfl) and puts her in danger. He is aware that the son of the man that he set her up to marry may have killed his mother, and is threatening Ari on every occasion he can. Do you wanna know what he does? He leaves her with him on numerous unsupervised visits. When she is sexually assaulted by the son, the author brushes it off. When he forces her to kiss him, and news reaches Kieran, he precedes to be pissed off though she has made it clear to him that all sexual advances are not of her choice.
