Desperately Married by Britt Jones
Haven
I’m frantic. My father has disappeared, his illegally made millions of dollars are frozen, and threatening phone calls pour in night and day. Everything is gone and I can’t even buy groceries for my little sisters.
Desperate and without any other options, I jump at the chance for a marriage of convenience. He’s my mother’s friend after all, what could be the harm? Only he’s not the lonely older man I imagined as a comfortable confidante and mentor, but a sexy-as-sin billionaire whose intentions I don’t fully understand. Now I have a new problem—I desperately crave my husband’s touch.
Rhett
Always needing the last word, my father made sure—even after his death—to punish me for not toeing his carefully drawn line. Marriage is what he wanted for me, and marriage is what it will take to inherit the money I want to open a rehab center for returning soldiers. A marriage of convenience seems the easiest and fastest way to go. Especially when I could catch a criminal in the process.
What I didn’t expect was to fall for the gorgeous woman caught in the crosshairs. Suddenly ‘I Do’ takes on a whole new meaning.

Desperately Married, Book 4 of the Tendered Vows series, was about 38 or 39-year-old Rhett Montgomery, former Army Ranger and currently working security with his old CO, and 25-year-old Haven DuMonde, an elementary school teacher.
Rhett worked for his former commanding officer from time to time at his security company called HARDCORE. He learned that Haven's father was being investigated by multiple government agencies, leaving his three daughters vulnerable not only to bad people but also left them without the ability to fend for themselves since all their assets were frozen. Realizing that Haven was in a similar predicament to the one he found himself in, he offered her the solution to what she believed would be a marriage of convenience. However, he had fallen in love at first sight and didn't plan on letting her or her sisters go.
This story was different from the first three books in the series. It wasn't written about the mafia or the bratva. While it did have some sinister parts and some nefarious characters, it was more about a former military man who met an elementary school teacher who both fell in love while dealing with the fallout of their late fathers. The angst level was too high for how low the danger level ended up being. The emotional rollercoaster was also lacking in twists and turns, to the point of being a bit boring. It was like being an adult riding a kiddie ride at the annual fair.
Many things with this book kept it from receiving a five-star rating. It was a rushed story that didn't seem complete when it ended. With the story's plot being what it was (suspense and crime-related), the author didn't give it enough room to develop to its full potential. The conflict of the book never had a chance to build up, get tense, and then explode into its climax so that it ended with everything being revealed. It just fell flat once all the secrets were revealed. Except...not everything was brought out into the open. The author just let some of it fall by the wayside and it got trampled into the dust. This left the story with a tremendous amount of unresolved issues. Even the title didn't make much sense.
The two main characters didn't have time to build their relationship either. I mean, seriously, the whole book revolved around a couple of days before it ended. That was a bit disappointing. There wasn't any push/pull between the FMC and the MMC, although there was plenty of it with one of the half-sisters and the MMC. The spicy scenes weren't all that spicy. They almost resembled the old Harlequin "fade to black" scenes but with a few kinky words thrown in.
I gave the book only a three-star rating, and that was being generous with all of the things that didn't work in the book.
