De Lucci’s Obsession by Victoria Paige
There was no escape when a De Lucci became obsessed.
All Ava McGrath wanted to do was save her family’s pub.
Even if that meant facing her best friend’s older brother.
But Cesar De Lucci wasn’t the man she remembered from long ago.
He’d become temptation in a three-piece Italian suit.
His piercing gaze unsettled her while each encounter with him stole her breath.
But Cesar’s shady connections to the mob might be Ava’s road to ruin.
The underworld tore her family apart, and her father still paid the price.
Ava should run.
Run far, far away.
Away from the insanity, intensity, and the reckless feelings spiraling between them.
Before the taste of his obsession became her addiction

De Lucci’s Obsession was about Ava McGrath, whose family owned Eamonn's, an Irish pub, and Cesar De Lucci, her best friend's older brother. When Ava realized that the pub was in financial trouble and that her mother was turning down business with the De Lucci family in spite of needing the money, she decided to contact her friend Paulie (Cesar's younger brother and her BFF) and accepted their business in order to keep the pub in the black. Unknown to her, Cesar had become obsessed with her and was willing to do anything to keep her safe from the other mob families. When her pub catered an event at the De Lucci home, Cesar made his presence known to her. It was the first time she had seen him in eleven years. As she was preparing food to serve the guests, she collided with her BFF's wife, causing her to nearly drop the tray she was carrying. Harsh words were exchanged before Ava returned to the kitchen to get more food. While there Cesar approached her and they had a bit of an encounter over a specific dish, only to be interrupted by Cesar's sister-in-law. After the confrontation, Ava felt like she needed to step outside, where she was assaulted by a rival mafia member...who was dealt with by Cesar when he realized she was in danger. Cesar showed up at Ava's later that night and, once he realized she was still feeling the effects of her assault, stayed to help her fall asleep. That was the beginning of Ava's reintroduction to the De Lucci mafia family. And Cesar never stopped his pursuit of her. To say this book was "short and sweet" would only be half right. Yes, it was short. I wish it had been a tad longer because it left a LOT out. It needed more grit, more content, and more background information for each of the families. It's as if this particular book was not the first one written, but perhaps it was more like "Book 5" in a series, except it's not. It's a standalone, single book that needed more to be better than it was. Oh, it was a good story. It just didn't feel complete. The storyline and plot were all over the place. It was a bit convoluted at times, making it hard to know which direction the author really wanted to go in and, in the end, it still wasn't obvious why the author took the path she did in certain areas. The emotions were all there. The angst and drama levels were pretty high for such a short story, and at times it felt like they were too much. But there was also enough humor, heartache, and tension to keep the reader interested. It just...needed more. It was like everything was rushed to get to an ending that, while it was good, felt a bit rushed. The whole story felt that way. The MMC was a bit over the top in every way. He was SO macho that it was oppressive. You got the idea he was a "my way or the highway" type of character, and he was. But that was supposed to be the "ideal" Mafia guy, right? Yeah, it didn't really fit him though. The FMC was a bit lackluster. At times, she was a pushover, while at other times, she stood her ground and didn't let anyone, including the MMC, run roughshod over her. But she also felt out of place to me. I mean, here she was, a 23-year-old college student, friends with a Mafia son, the daughter of a former Mafia enforcer, and she was kind of lost between them and being a normal person. While it was a decent story, it was one of those books you want to say you liked, but that it was "nothing to write home about" kind of book. It just left a lot to be desired, so it only got a 3.5-star, rounded up to a 4-star rating from me. It just needs a bit more tweaking to be an unforgettable story.
Stupid story
